Description
This colorful green Tara Thangka is a great way to meditate since it helps people find clarity and balance within themselves. The practitioner starts by merely looking at the thangka. The peaceful expression, harmonious colors, and complex details help calm the mind and dispel distracting thoughts
Her willingness to act inspires people to move from passive empathy to active compassion in their own lives. The lotus she holds and rests on stands for purity—the power to rise from the “mud” of sorrow and bloom into enlightenment.
The meditation is sometimes accompanied by the quiet or whispered chanting of her sacred mantra: “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha.” This phrase is an appeal to her true self. It means something like, “I bow down to the Liberator, the Swift One, the Heroine; may it be so!” It enables her to remember her traits of kindness, protection, and quick help.
The end goal is to stop seeing Green Tara as an outside person and start seeing her enlightened qualities—compassion, courage, and quick action.

The Green Tara Thangka is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist depiction of a revered female bodhisattva associated with compassion, protection, and swift action. It is often invoked for overcoming fears and obstacles, aiding practitioners in spiritual and worldly challenges. The Green Tara ritual involves preparation, mind preparation, refuge and bodhicitta prayers, visualization of Green Tara, recitation of the Green Tara mantra, prayers and offerings, meditation, and dedication of merit. The ritual is conducted before a sacred painting on cloth to invoke her blessings. The mantra “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha” is chanted repeatedly to invoke Tara’s protection, quick assistance, and blessings. After recitation and offering, practitioners enter silent meditation, visualizing Green Tara’s blessings in the form of light. The ritual concludes by dedicating any positive energy generated to the benefit of all beings, further aligning with Green Tara’s compassionate nature.
