Description

In Buddhism, Jambhala is seen as a deity who comes from Avalokiteshvara and protects the Dharma. He helps people overcome both physical and spiritual poverty so they can be generous. In the thangka, a yellow Jambhala sits in the center, surrounded by other Jambhalas in red, yellow, black, and green. His strong build and royal appearance stand for both spiritual and material wealth.
Jambhala’s expression might look angry, but it really shows deep compassion for ending poverty and encouraging charity. He is usually shown holding a bijapuraka fruit, which grants wishes, and a mongoose that produces diamonds. These items stand for his power to remove poverty and give wealth. Jambhala’s teachings remind people to see money as a way to help others and support the community, but also to avoid becoming attached to material things.
