Padmasambhava, also known as the “Lotus-born” or “Precious Guru” (Guru Rinpoche), was a renowned Indian scholar and tantric master who played a significant role in the development of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism in Tibet. He was famous for his involvement in developing these Buddhist religious pathways. Padmasambhava’s image, depicted in various forms, reflects his mastery of Buddhist religious pathways. The thangka depicts him holding a tantric staff, a khatvanga in his left arm, an iron trident at the top, a golden vajra with five points in his right hand, and a skull cup filled with nectar in his left hand. Guru Rinpoche, also known as Guru Padmasambhava, brought Buddhism to Tibet in the eighth century. The Guru Rinpoche ritual, also known as the Guru Padmasambhava, honours him as the “Second Buddha” and is a holy event in Tibetan Buddhism, particularly the Nyingma school. The ritual includes invocations, offerings, and chants, with the Guru Rinpoche Mantra being a significant part. Followers pray, sing lines honouring his lessons, and meditate and visualize him. Ritual tools and signs, such as prayer wheels and vajras, represent knowledge, wisdom, and kindness. The ceremony ends with a dedication of merit, aiming to make the world peaceful and healthy.
